DOMESTIC VOILENCE AND STATS:

Domestic volience is a voilence or other abuse by one person against another in a domestic setting, such as in marriage or cohabitation. Domestic voilence also include voilence against children, parents or the elderly. It takes a number of forms, including physical, verbal, emotional to voilent physical abuse such as choking, beating, female genital mutiliation and acid throwing that result in disfigurement or death. Domestic murderers include stoning, bride burning, honor killing and dowry deaths. Globally, the victim of domestic voilence are overwhelmingly women and women tend to experience more severe form of voilence.

According to a National Family and Health Survey in 2005, total lifetime prevalence of domestic violence was 33.5% and 8.5% for sexual violence among women aged 15–49. A 2014 study in The Lancet reports that the reported sexual violence rate in India is among the lowest in the world, the large population of India means that the violence affects 27.5 million women over their lifetimes. The 2012 National Crime Records Bureau report of India states a reported crime rate of 46 per 100,000, rape rate of 2 per 100,000, dowry homicide rate of 0.7 per 100,000 and the rate of domestic cruelty by husband or his relatives as 5.9 per 100,000. These reported rates are significantly smaller than the reported intimate partner domestic violence rates in many countries, such as the United States (590 per 100,000) and reported homicide (6.2 per 100,000 globally), crime and rape incidence rates per 100,000 women for most nations tracked by the United Nations.

According to the data, we can observe that, percentage wise, domestic voilence cases in India is maximum among the buddhism is maximum, then it is in islam and then Hinduism and christainity is almost equal. In hindu religion, cases of domestic voilence is more but by percentage it is less because of large population of hindu people residing in the country.

Women in our country are very often become the victim of domestic voilence. Many of the cases are being registered and many are not just because they are not aware of their fundamental rights. But in recent, it has been observed that thier is slight decline in the cases domestic voilence. Women in our society are empowered and awareness campaigns are being run to aware and educate them.
